Create an account5 Outfit Essentials for your Winter Adventures!
This winter, try finding your favourite activity with some toasty new duds. We’re going to help you build the perfect outfit for your adventure to keep you moving and grooving in the chilly season!
3 important rules for keeping warm during winter fun!
1. Layer-up
This is the most fundamental rule for enjoying the cold temperatures safely. Layers help you regulate your body temperature to avoid sweating. Sweating is far more dangerous than the cold; once your clothes become damp, hypothermia becomes a big-time danger. Always dress in multiple sweat-wicking layers to stay safe and comfortable.
2. Check the forecast
A good winter adventure should start with a weather check, especially if you're heading out with the whole family. It doesn’t matter if you’re heading to the river to walk the Meewasin Trail or way out to Cranberry Flats for a snowshoe or skiing, knowing what to prepare for is essential to your fun!
3. Bring supplies
A thermos of hot coffee and a pack or two of handwarmers can go a long way in the cold. Make sure you’re prepared before heading out into the chilly wilderness – you can never go wrong with an extra pair of dry socks!
Your 5 outfit essentials for outdoor adventure
1. Base layers
We have many great women and men's base-layer options. A thin base layer, such as long johns and a long sleeved shirt, wicks away moisture and sweat and can dry quickly. It’s important that it be made of wool, or a wool and polyester blend; these materials dry quickly and keep your body temperature regulated.
2. Mittens
Mittens might feel more inconvenient than gloves, but they allow your little digits to huddle up and keep warm, sharing heat more effectively than gloves, plus they allow extra room for a heat pack on those extra cold days. Check out our Hestra or FLylow mittens to keep your fingers cozy.
3. Toques & more
We have a great selection of outerwear that will keep you toasty. If you’re heading on a long adventure, we recommend a Buff neck warmer to keep the chill out. If you want a stylish new toque, we have a great selection from some of our favourite brands, like Indygena and Picture!
4. Outdoor Apparel
We just had a huge winter drop from one of our favourite companies, Picture Organic Clothing. Not only will their jackets and ski-pants keep you warm this winter, but we like the brand even more for their incredible passion for the earth. Picture products are made from 100% recycled, organic, or responsibly sourced materials! The bonus: their unique and colourful designs really pop whether you're in the city or on some fresh powder!
5. Boots
The most important essential: a warm and waterproof pair of boots. We recommend grabbing a great pair of Lems Boulder boots! Lems are a sustainably minded and anatomy-driven footwear. The Boulder boot features the zero-drop sole, is incredibly flexible, and is totally waterproof! For little feet, we definitely recommend the Olang Ape Boot. It’s flexible, lightweight, and keeps your kid's feet warm all the way down to -30°C.
